Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation – TNSTC

TNSTC is fully owned and operated by the Government of Tamil Nadu. TNSTC has started online booking facilities to book bus tickets between major cities served by TNSTC. It caters to all the districts within Tamil Nadu and also operates services to neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and union territory of Puducherry. Until 1997, the transport corporation was divided into 21 divisions which were later merged to form 8 divisions. TNSTC along with its subsidiaries, owns 321 depots and five workshops with a combined fleet strength of 21,678 buses. TNSTC also offers contract and tourist services. Every bus owned by the corporation displays a portrait of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar along with a two-line verse from Thirukkural inside the bus.

Tamil Nadu Transport Minister S S Sivasankar has clarified that the government is yet to take a final call on roping in 500 private buses on behalf of Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai.
The state has decided not to change the vehicle speed limits on expressways/national highways (NHs) and hilly terrains, despite the Union ministry for road transport and highways (MoRTH) advising states
to increase vehicle speed limits.1 Sivasankar has called upon industries to help make the state the automotive hub of the country.0 He has also announced the preparations to set up retail petrol/diesel bunks at ten different locations in the state, including three in Chennai, catering to public and government buses.1 The state transport department recently expanded its digital services.

The Transport Department is also the Nodal Agency of the State Government in respect of projects implemented by the Southern Railway, Department of Postal and Telecommunications and the Civil Aviation of the Government of India [1]
